The Saga of the Clemson-Temple Game
Ok.....so the title is a little cheesy. However, at this point...it does feel a little like a saga.
To cut through the chase, the copy of the Clemson/Temple game currently available is not the final product. It's simply the best I have at the current moment, and the search continues for the complete copy. But how did it get to this point? Surely in the days of TiVo, it's nearly impossible to mess up recording a game. You would think.
Here's the timeline:
10/20/05 - Two days before the Temple game, information was posted on TigerNet linking the CN8 website. CN8 was to broadcast the game in the Philadelphia area only, uncut and in it's entirety. The website contained information on how to obtain a video tape of any CN8 broadcasting for a $30 fee, after a 8 week processing and shipping period. "Great", I thought, "I'll be able to get the entire game and share it with the Tiger Nation if anyone is interested". I put the $30 in the mail on Thursday, and awaited Saturday's game.
10/22/05 - Long Browning TD. Long Kelly TD. Merriweather dragging people all over the place. Everyone on defense gets a sack. The Cain family leaves at halftime because someone missed his morning nap and was getting aggrevated (not me).
10/26/05 - I try to TiVo the abbreviated 2 hour rebroadcast on CharterSportsSoutheast (CSS), but much to my dismay there is NO AUDIO for the 3PM rebroadcast and only 20 minutes of sound for the 7PM rebroadcast. I'm not a happy camper, but I tell myself that it's a moot point because I'll soon have the entire game on VHS that I can convert to DVD.
12/12/05 - I receive my check back in the mail, along with a letter stating that they cannot send me a copy of the game because they do not own the rights to it. I ask myself why they didn't mention that on the website.
12/15/05 - I visit Temple's Rival and Scout boards (even signing up for the Rivals pay board), asking if anyone happened to tape the game. Needless to say, they weren't very enthusiastic about football. I suppose an 0-11 season will do that to a fan base. At any rate, someone finally responded that they have "most" of the game on tape and they'd be happy to send it my way. That tape is what I used on the DVD that is currently available (appoximately the first three quarters).
The highlights of the game are still intact. Anything that the broadcast missed is recapped on the Tommy Bowden Show on Disc #1. I'm currently working with the Temple Athletic Department to get the rest of the footage, but they aren't willing to do much to help some lowly Clemson fan.
At any rate, thanks for your patience.
Take care and Go Tigers!
